Personality & Traits

General Overview Ayana (or just Ana to her friends) doesn't immediately look like someone who served with an elite Israeli military unit, much less two. While she can be professional, she does have a dry sense of humor and tends to be direct in what she says. Moreover, her intelligence and ability to recall things with a high degree of accuracy from memory can lead many to an impression she's either in Intelligence or an academic. But her own admission is that she couldn't sit still long enough to apply herself in those fields.
Strengths & Weaknesses Ayana is very perceptive, part of why she ended up in a recon unit originally. She is very detail oriented, often she feels the need to correct others and has to fight back against that impulse for the sake of social graces.

She is actually fairly adventerous, often taking leave time to wander to various places in and outside of Israel. Joining the Stargate Program was simply an extension of that attitude. Sometimes this can result in doing things many would consider reckless, but Ayana is self aware enough to not do something to risk the life of another.

Ayana also has a strong sense of right and wrong, she accepts that war is not a black and white matter but she will not conduct herself or allow others to conduct themselves in a way that is obviously morally wrong and clearly avoidable. In her mind, the right way may not always be easy, but it is the correct way.
Ambitions Ayana enjoys her service with Oketz, and she's considered after her time with Stargate Command putting in to work with Home Defense Command. But she has also hit a crossroads where she isn't 100% sure what she wants to do with her career and hopes that for now, she doesn't have to decide.
Hobbies & Interests Ayana loves to travel and backpack around new places. With options close to home being limited, she did do a fair bit of travel to Greece, Italy and Spain, but hopes to see more places. When she can't travel, she will help her father with restoring a car the two of them started when she was a teenager as a side project or she loves to go out on a motorcycle.

Something more hidden though is Ayana loves to cook, something she picked up from her mother. But she doesn't advertise this fact to a lot of people right away. If Ayana invites someone over for dinner that she's cooking, it means she trusts that person and has accepted them as a friend.

Personal History Born in Haifa, Israel, Ayana is the oldest of 3. Her father retired from the IDF as a tank mechanic and opened up his own auto mechanic shop, and her mother was off and on a marine biologist working out of the port city. Family life was always tight knit, her mother and father were very much a part of their childrens' lives and let all three explore who they were and where life would take them.

When Ayana was 15, her world, like everyone else's, was turned upside down. The family was visiting relatives in Jerusalem when the attacks happened. Even the ever vigilant Israeli Defense Force was caught off guard, and Ayana was trapped in a collapsed apartment building. She was rescued by a search dog, but in the chaos, the dog had been separated from his handler, and the two of them wandered until they found the collection point. Ayana was reunited with her family, and the search dog with his handler. She would continue to maintain ties with the handler and search dog after the incident.

This incident would be what drove her to work towards joining the IDF's elite K9 unit, Oketz, when her mandatory service period came up. However, per IDF regulations, she had to apply for service with the Kfir Brigade first. Here, she would receive training in counter terrorism tactics and urban warfare and would eventually find herself posted to the Brigade's recon battalion. This was a great start but her application was not yet to be accepted by Oketz, but it did put her on track to accepting training as an officer if she stayed with the IDF.

She would serve three years with the 95th Recon Battalion after becoming an officer, and kept applying to Oketz but to no avail. There simply weren't enough slots open, and she declined offers to move to the Paratrooper Brigade or even take on being in one of the IDF's Special Forces units. Finally, in 2018, she was accepted, trained, paired with her new partner, and attached to the Kfir Brigade as K9 support.

Two years later, a rather vague request for volunteers reached her. Naturally, the plans to go out and see what really awaited humanity in the stars was no secret at this point. But the IDF Brass was being needlessly obtuse to keep from losing too many people to this new venture. Ayana's adventure streak kicked in and she signed up without hesitation. She was accepted, alongside her military working dog, Duke, and the two would be among the small group representing Israel in this new venture.

=======
Duke is a three year old Belgian Malinois male that was paired with Ayana during her training with Oketz in 2018. He was specifically trained as a search dog, making him skilled in locating people, as well as explosives and narcotics. As a military working dog, he does also have combat training. Overall though, Duke is a well disciplined animal that works well with Ayana. He responds to commands issued in Hebrew.

Ayana and Duke have bonded well together, and Ayana has been granted special permission to remain Duke's handler for longer than normal due to being attached to Stargate Command and therefore not in a position to begin the process again with a new working dog. Duke is often not far from Ayana unless specifically required. He currently holds the rank of Sergeant in the Israeli Defense Force, a common practice among military working dogs to hold rank as a sign of respect.
