Arriving at the mess hall, Scarlett picked herself out something to eat before making her way across to a seat. She didn’t feel like eating alone so she made her way over to a table where a young woman sat alone.

“Would you mind if I joined you.”

Sitting alone Hannah nodded and smiled. “Please take a seat, it’ll be nice to have someone to talk to. I’m Hannah Matsson by the way.”

Scarlett smiled. “Thank you. I’m Scarlett Hayes, Archaeologist. She smiled as she sat down. “So what team are you with? I’m with SG1.” She looked to Hannah.

“I’m a field medic, so I’m guessing whatever team needs me at the time, and I’m also a nurse here on base.” Hannah smiled warmly.

Scarlett nodded. “I think this is going to be very exciting! don’t you?. None of us have been through the gate yet so it’s going to be a whole new experience.”

Hannah nodded. “It’s certainly going to be a whole new experience! Aren't you scared of what we might encounter out there?”

“Sure, but I guess I’ve gotten used to it” Scarlett paused. “I was in medical quarantine for several weeks prior to being assigned here, it won’t mean much to you yet but... I was a host to a species called the Tok’ra. They’re a larval species that take a host, an offshoot of our enemies the Goa’uld. Her name was Shani she eventually gave her life to save me.”

Hannah nodded giving Scarlett a very curious look. “They provided us with a ‘need to know’ package that mentioned these symbionts. I never thought I’d be meeting someone who’d actually been a host, at least not so soon!” She offered a smile. “I’d love to learn more about it...from a medical standpoint of course.”

Scarlett smiled. “I was an Archaeology teacher before all this happened. We found a canopic jar, inside was the trapped Tok’ra symbiont. It had no choice but to take me for a host. The symbiont came from a world that we can possibly reach through the Stargate at least that’s what I’m hoping, I’d like answers about her.”

“If I remember correctly..” Hannah smiled. “The juvenile’s enter through the neck and wrap themselves around the spinal cord. As they mature they latch onto the brain stem which, either way makes them near impossible to remove without killing the host. In your case Shani died after releasing control of you. The symbiont decayed inside your body, which would leave naqueda in your blood.”

Scarlett nodded. “That’s right, good memory! Just don’t let a Goa’uld too near you at any point in the future and you’ll be fine.”

“Well I for one hope you enjoy your posting here” Hannah smiled warmly. “When you have chance drop into medical, and I’ll get your medical clearance done and out of the way.”

Scarlett frowned. “Really? Thought I’d get away with that one not being military staff.”

Hannah grinned. “It’s just a quick check over and a few questions. Nothing at all to worry about.”

“Then I guess I’ll drop by later.” Scarlett smiled. “I’m kind of up to my ears in sorting out my quarters, and my office.”

"Perfect” Hannah smiled. “Just let me know when you’re available, I’ll be in the infirmary all day anyway. Actually it’s time I was getting back.”

“I certainly will” Scarlett smiled and nodded. “It’s been nice meeting you Hannah.”

Hannah smiled and nodded. “Likewise Scarlett.”
