Mission: The Rise of the Valkyrie
Location: Gate Room - Stargate Command
2418 words - 4.8 OF Standard Post Measure

As he gripped his P90 as Lt. Colonel Raynor walked through the hall way in his whole gear as he and others were prepped and ready to deploy after this briefing the general. But as he walked up the steps and into the large briefing room, he started to notice that he wasn’t the only one here. There was General Lockhart. He had only the general around from time to time as of late while they were preparing for this first official mission through the gate. Quite honestly, he may need to make a personal stop to talk with her after the mission… maybe a date.

But what was different, as of late, was the increase of more security forces member now around the room, and a specialized marked off place which they were guarding. There was nothing there, so what was going on? On the opposite side of the room and the table was the bullet proof glass that looked down upon the Stargate deployment room. There were technicians hard at work preparing a more modern MALP and a drone in which was to be launched as soon as the stargate connected. He took a deep breath as he saw some of the other teams starting to arrive. They were more like his large team as their SG units hadn’t been fully laid out but still, there were quite a few as the meeting room started to fill.

"Attention, SG deployment teams, report to the Gate Room. I repeat, SG deployment team, report to the Gate Room," the Operator spoke up over the base communication system.

Carter had been in the locker room designated to her team preparing herself for the coming mission. When the call sounded she took a few deep calming breaths before standing up, taking a moment to check her gear again. With the normal amount of ammo stuffed into every pocket on her webbing she also had in the top of her back two 100 round double drum magazines, just in case. The Modified M4 Commando was clipped to her vest and fitted with a double drum magazine. It didn't take long to get to the gate room where she nodded to the Colonel and took her place before the gate. This would be the first time she would go through the gate, and the first time she'd be going off world. This was exciting and her pulse spiked, but she was highly trained so she kept it to her self, at least she tried to. She was sure her overly alert darting gaze was giving it away though.

Scarlett had been nervously prepping for the first trip through the gate, she was looking forward to it, but at the same time she was as nervous as hell. With the call to head to the Gate Room she double checked her equipment before heading to join the others. As she reached the Gate Room she walked inside offering a polite nod to Raynor and Carter.

Zek made his way from the armory with his issued weapons, an M249 and 600 rounds of linked ammo in 200 round belts, with one in the gun and the other two in his pack. Four one hundred round box magazines in his vest and a secondary side arm with several magazines of ammo. He looked over the people that had started to gather and was honestly ready to get through the gate. He was holding the handle of the gun and adjusting his helmet with the other.

The colonel looked at the heavelly armed arrivals before looking at his own. "Sudtle..." he simply stated before shaking his head before looking at Scarlett. "Doctor, you ready for hot trip through the gate?"

Scarlett nodded. “I’m looking forward to it Colonel.” She offered a wry smile.

"I'm fixin' to whoop ET's ass, sir," Chambers said with a smirk and patted the light machine gun. "This here is just my little gift to them."

"Yes well..." John blinked before unclipping his P90 as he walked over to one of the security forces airmen. "serge, can you do me a favor and run to the armory, grab my rifle."

The sergeant smirked and took both the P90 and the clips from the officer. "No problem sir, want me to grab a grenade launcher as well?"

"Smartass. Hurry up."

"Ye sir," the enlisted laughed before radioing in Colonel Raynor's request.

1st Lieutenant Josephine Keller entered in silence, armed like her colleagues but only with the P90 and a ZAT holstered to her leg visible. She carried the standard pack and as she entered, she put her helmet on, tucking her plait under the collar of the vest she wore. Her eyes darted around the gate room and she stepped up in line with the other members of SG1 and prayed not to be called out for anything wrong with her uniform. She had spent ages making sure it was spot on. She saluted the Colonel when his glance came her way. But she remained mute while others spoke around her.

James McCoy arrived a few moments later his MK-17 slung across his chest, ruck on his back HK45 on hip, and two SOG sheathed one on his left hip the other across his left chest. He moved to an out of the way corner where he put on his cap, and moved the sunglasses he had to sit along on them. His eyes darted around the room as he waited to hear more about his next assignment.

Walking into the embarkation room, Jason was doing a few final checks on his EF88 Austeyr, making sure it was in good condition for deployment. Wearing the Camo variant of the SG service uniform, Jason had his Australian Army LCE strapped over top of the SG combat vest and his rifle sling hanging over one shoulder. Strapped to his legs, Jason had his Browning 9mm on one side and a Zat gun on the other. He still wasn’t 100% comfortable with the alien weapon but he figured another side arm couldn’t hurt.

Looking up at the giant ring, Jason took a deep breath, “bloody hell that thing is huge.”

Preston had been dragging his feet a little, having gotten into a heated discussion with a weapons tech over the differences between a C8 and the M4 in the manufacturing presence, and why he was not only "sure enough" but was extremely sure that the man had handed him the wrong carbine. All that behind him now, the Major stepped towards the front of the group, looking to the Lieutenant Colonel and back at the other members. "Well, judging from what everyone else brought Maybe I should have broken out the C20..." He looked down and checked his chest rig quick, double checking his count of STANAG Mags quickly. "So do we say a magic word, or..."

"Seems like everyone is ready to go in to get some revenge," John replied as he walked up to the canadian officer with his newly arrived weapon. He attached the modified M4 and took in a deep breath. He tapped the handle of his assault rifle, which looked similar to the C8, but a little different all around. He wondered what the their thought of the change in weapon but shrugged. "Can't blame them. Don't know what to expect out there. As for starting this thing..." He turned and looked up at the control room "Hey anyone going to... I don't know..."

"Relax Colonel. Last time I checked, I am still the guy in charge," the general spoke through the mic system. He gave a nod to the technician in front of the control system.

"Dialing the gate," the technician called out. The stargate came to life with hissing and hum of power was heard.

As the gate room started to clear up of extra technicians and personal, the M.A.L.P. and the drone, which was lowered down from an arm from above, was prepped and ready before the ramp before the Stargate. The klaxon for the base started to flash and warning began screaming. The field unit stepped back into the gate room and looked at one another as the stargate came to life. The internal track of the alien technology started to rotate and began to shake the surrounding area and equipment as it start to dial.

"So no magic word, just annoy the general," John smirked before looking up at the briefing room above the control room. There were new faces, looking to be high ranking officials. "Guess they called in brass."

Scarlett was fascinated by the gate as it rotated and each symbol locked into position, it was exciting yet terrifying all at the same time.

"Alright kiddos. New world and experience for all of us. Keep comms open. ," Raynor called out as he stepped up in front of the group. He opened up a pouch on the vest he had on and pulled out a device that looked similar to a recording device. "All of us should have one of these. Thanks to our years of experience with both our specialists and real life audio of the said language spoken out loud by the Goa'uld space craft, and captured Jaffa, techy techy guys... and gals, came up with these. They are translators. Most of us have the simple versions which verbally translate spoken language live either out of its speaker into our language or our language to their language, or we can connect it to our radio ear piece with the splitter. It has some of the languages we should expect out there, but not all. The SGC servers have all available languages in order to update or modify as needed. So our linguists should be good."

"Either case, you have to turn them on yourself. Our specialists have the more advanced versions, which have cameras and larger screens to do life visual translations of writing and capturing pictures for transmission to the MALP or to the SGC's server once returned back to station. Keep in mind that these internal batteries are not designed for more than a max of maybe forty-eight hours on stand by. We all have portable battery packs to charge via cables but not many. We already have enough gear in our bags. So keep the devices off unless needed," John explained as the stargate continued locking in chevrons. He slid the translator device back into his pouch.

He looked upon the ring as well in the same exhilaration and excitement as the rest. To see it come alive and just moments later, the teams were going to be on another planet. It was going to be not of Earth, new environment. This was all going to be a rush.

As the final chevron lit up, a vertical puddle came alive and a vortex came alive and flushed back into itself before settling to be a vertical puddle of water. It shimmered and flowed as though it was an active pool giving massive amounts of power flowing between the ring. "Holy shit..."

"Sending the M.A.L.P." the technician announced over the intercom. After that, the four wheeled remote controlled vehicle came alive and moved up the ramp in a decent speed. The team rechecked their gear one last time as they watched it slide through the event horizon.

He looked back at the group and held up his wrist. "One more thing, these are our G.D.O... Short for... well Garage Door Opener. Stupid, yeah I get it but still. They are our Remote code devices. They transmit a signal to the SGC computer which identifies our unit so we can get back without worrying about the iris. The iris..." he paused and looked at the vertical puddle which was active, before looking back at the group. "... is basically a titanium shield that closes just over the event horizon, preventing anything from coming through. No code, no opening the garage door. Don't lose it." The Colonel explained before lowering his arm.

Moments later, waiting in anticipation, they heard the same technician report back in. "Area around the gate is clear and ready for drone launch at your command, Colonel Raynor."

"Launch drone," John ordered as he looked up and nodded with him waving his hands to send in the drone. It took off and entered the event horizon as well.

Then General Lockhart started to speak and everyone looked up at him. "You have twenty four hours to explore the area, and find what you can before reporting back. If we do not hear from you within that time frame, your codes will be locked out and you will not be able to return through the gate. You have a go, and God Speed," General Lockhart announced, in a way of almost seemingly feeling as though he had practiced and memorized these words. He was no doubt nervous about sending his people through, but he made sure not showing any signs of questioning what was before them all.

With that, the colonel gave a two finger salute at the general before turning to the stargate. Pulling out a small 7 inch tablet, he looked at the read out of the MALP to the device. It was all clear, a mild amount of brush and the stargate was up a couple feet with stones holding the gate, with steps going up and down from the stargate. Temperature was not horribly hot but it was no doubt humid and going to drain them faster due to the heat from humidity over the dry heat beating down from the sun that this planet orbited. Folding up the tablet device into a thin phone like device, he slid it into the inside of his vest and sighed.

"Alright people, may want to strip down a bit once we have secured the surrounding area. This isn't going to be cool at all," John ordered as he loosened the cuffs of his top before bringing up his weapon. He knew it may not be useful now, but that didn't change the fact that it wasn't going to get cold at night either. The group headed up the ramp to the active gate. He placed his gun into the event horizon and looked back at them. "Alright SG Unit, let's head out!" With that, Raynor stepped through the puddle with his rifle up ready for any possible threat at the new location..
